Abstract

David Williamson is Australia’s most successful dramatic writer. Emerald City, his latest drama, is his twelfth. Best known to American audiences are The Club (Players on Broadway), The Removalists, and The Perfectionist. His movie scripts include Don’s Party, Phar Lap, Gallipoli, Travelling North, and with Christopher Koch, The Year of Living Dangerously. Emerald City opened off-Broadway in November, with a movie version to go into world distribution in 1989. His most recent television script, A Dangerous Life, is now showing on the U.S. Home Box Office.
The following conversation took place at Williamson’s home in Sydney during August 1988.
