Abstract
This represents the first publication of a transcription of an interview between Brazilian artist Hélio Oiticica and New York underground Superstar Mario Montez that took place in Brooklyn in 1971. There are only three other brief interviews with Montez that address his work in underground film and performance and that were published when he was active in the 1960s and early '70s. This extended conversation between two seminal figures of the international post-war avant garde sheds considerable light on Montez's career and clarifies specificities about his multifarious involvement in the New York underground scene. As such, it will certainly become an essential reference point for future scholars.
