Dear Readers,
We are excited to bring you the inaugural issue of The Information Warrior Journal. We created this student-run, fully open-access journal to showcase student and recent alumni scholarship from the Wayne State University School of Information Sciences to the global community of information sciences. In addition to sharing this scholarship, we aim to provide a space for Wayne State SIS students and recent graduates to receive constructive feedback and improve their skills to engage with the world of professional publishing.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all of those who played a pivotal role in the creation of the journal, a project that has been in progress since the spring of 2021. Thank you especially to our advisory board, who provided a wealth of knowledge and insight gained from many years of leadership within the information profession; Joshua Neds-Fox and Cheryl Ball, who spent hours answering our questions and walking us through the digital publishing process; and Kim Schroeder, our faculty advisor, whose wonderful guidance and tireless efforts were critical in turning the idea of a journal into a reality.
We would also like to acknowledge the many students and recent graduates who contributed their efforts, ideas, and creativity to this issue. Thank you to Jen Markowitz for coming up with the name The Information Warrior Journal, Amber Wiley Capps for naming the EmphaSIS column, and Matt Balcer for creating our cover art.
This issue spans several areas within the information profession, including school libraries, public libraries, academic libraries, and archives. We hope the articles will invite your continued readership and inspire conversation within the information sciences community. Perhaps they will encourage Wayne State University School of Information Sciences students to submit their own work to the journal or to join our editorial team. Thank you for being a part of our community. We're excited for the possibilities that lie ahead.
