Abstract

This qualitative study examined the experiences of nonbinary students in higher education at an urban, public, research institution in the Midwest. Purposeful sampling was used to find interested participants. Interviews from eight currently enrolled students who are nonbinary were transcribed. Numerous codes were developed from the interviews that were narrowed down into six major themes. These themes included, (1)Navigating Gender Expression and Gender Identity, (2)Gendered Facilities and Policies, (3) Experiences in Class, (4) Building Community, (5) Harm Prevention and Harmful Experiences, and (6) Education and Advocacy.
