Abstract
I seek to make explicit the social and historical context in which Gianni Rodari developed The Grammar of Fantasy and ideas that are now at the center of international innovation in preschools and early education. Rodari’s commitment to the imagination survives in the field of education as a treasure trove of methodological suggestions for today’s teachers who are looking for strategies to legitimate children’s thinking and the power of learning.
