Abstract
Fairy-tale logic is proposed as a mode of magical thinking typified by the belief that certain functions, fulfilled correctly and in the right order, lead to predictable outcomes. Mapping similarities in implicit reasoning within “Beauty and the Beast,” the reality television program Beauty and the Geek, and the misogynistic narratives thriving in the online incel movement, the author makes the case for fairy-tale logic as a framework for reading narratives grounded in sexist entitlement in order to show how certain narrative turns, in the context of reactions to shifting cultural norms, may signal the potential for violence.
