Abstract

The translations of these prefaces by Charles Perrault and Mme de Murat offer insights into the complexities of early modern tale transmission and allow us to recognize the late-seventeenth-century French fairy tale as a point of cultural and literary intersection. The juxtaposition of both prefaces here creates a dialogue between them and allows for richer contextual reading of the prefaces themselves, the tales they precede, and their compositional influences.
