A major strength of the Department is our active research program as evidenced by a continued ability to attract significant extramural research funding, publication of data in major peer-reviewed journals and presentations at national and international meetings.

The overall focus of Department Research is Molecular Pathogenesis and includes the following areas: host-pathogen interactions; infectious agents and chronic diseases; innate immunity and inflammatory responses to infectious agents; autoimmunity and neuroimmunology; vaccine technology; cancer therapeutics; and biodefense/bioterrorism.
