Description
Digital stories depicting the historical, the personal and the cultural aspects of a University have the potential to reveal existing bonds and to generate future connections. Historical accounts can instill in the school’s constituents a sense of place and pride; and an understanding of the long term effects of change. Personal stories of faculty, students, administrators, and alumni can reveal shared human experiences, permit insights into the lives and experiences of others. Cultural accounts can help counter lack of understanding and misunderstanding while promoting a community of inclusion rather than one of exclusion. Additionally, incorporating students in the development of digital stories offers them an opportunity to learn the art of storytelling, to participate in their school’s story, while absorbing the milieu and tradition of the academic community. Digital stories have the power to integrate the past (alumni) with the present (faculty, students, administrators) and to project a multidimensional portrait that would attract future members to join in the community’s rich narrative.
