Abstract
This essay discusses Arts Circle, an arts therapy initiative that I began through Greenway Arts Alliance in collaboration with Fairfax High School in Los Angeles. Arts Circle is a group art therapy session, facilitated by a Greenway teaching artist in collaboration with FHS’s psychiatric social worker. At the start of the program in 2019, students who were marked as mentally and behaviorally at-risk were sent to Arts Circle during the school day. During COVID-19, Arts Circle shifted to support the needs of the entire school rather than a specific subset of students. These changes eventually led to an even more accessible program than its in-person predecessor.
