Abstract

Information exchange is something which is done by every system including living organisms. It is the key to evolution. Due to the exchange of information, there is always a possibility of a new system creation. The new system having different rules of preserving the information it receives. One way of information exchange and new system creation is by genome instability. One method of information exchange between cells is through Tunneling Tubes (TTs). TTs are very fragile structures which have different morphologies than the TNTs which are being studied. The TTs are extended from one cell to another between different colonies. Some of the functions of TTs are transferring the cell organelles and DNA from one cell to another. They are also involved in the transfer of survival signals and apoptotic signals. These TTs have many unexplored biological functions and not just organelle transfer. MMC if used in a certain quantity, increases the number of tubes instead of decreasing which leads to a very interesting conclusion about the diverse nature of these TTs. Another mechanism by which there is an increase in the heterogeneity is formation of sphere like structures in the cell culture flask. Some MCF-7 cells were found to form spheres by joining together which were seen as highly heterogeneous upon collection and staining. Somehow these tubes ae seen to aid in their formation as observed. All these findings would be very useful to look at cancer in particular as the attempt of the cells to form a new system and will help in treating it effectively.
