Abstract
This paper reports the results of an empirical investigation of sampling fluctuations in age specific fertility rates (ASFR), total fertility rates (TFR), and the ratios of ASFRs used to identify the age pattern of childbearing (ASFR at age X/ASFR at age 20-24). Fertility parameters may be accurately estimated from birth histories collected from as few as 50 women.
