Abstract

A method is presented by which missing birth and death dates can be estimated for individuals whose position in a genealogy is known. The procedure depends on the assumption that birth and death rates calculated from living members of the popu­lation would also apply to the dead. Estimates are made and evaluated for the Trio, a horticultural group living in Surinam.
