Abstract
A method is presented by which missing birth and death dates can be estimated for individuals whose position in a genealogy is known. The procedure depends on the assumption that birth and death rates calculated from living members of the population would also apply to the dead. Estimates are made and evaluated for the Trio, a horticultural group living in Surinam.
