Abstract
Consumption of alcohol during pregnancy is associated with increased spontaneous abortion rates, pre- and postnatal growth retardation, congenital defects, and behavioral anomalies. There is considerable evidence, both direct and indirect, that many of these effects are due to fetal hypoxia.
