Abstract
Using an EEL portable spectrophotometer, skin reflectance values were obtained from 1062 individuals in Pembrokeshire, both from the medial aspect of the upper arm and from the forehead in each instance. This part of Wales contains two areas (North and South) which are distinctive both in socio-cultural and in geographical environmental terms and the populations in these two areas were compared for skin color and certain significant differences were established. These may be the result of a complex interaction of genetic and environmental influences.
