Abstract
The frequencies of βs and βC hemoglobin genes were determined by electrophoresis in 2010 subjects born and living in four towns and two villages of Atakora district (Benin). A high frequency of the βC allele and a relatively low frequency of the βs allele were found. These data are discussed in respect to their bearing on the ideas that the peoples of North Benin belong ethnically to the Voltaic people.
