Abstract
The bloods of 1800 western Kenyans were screened for hemoglobin variants by electrophoresis on cellulose acetate. Variants encountered, besides Hb S, included Hbs O-ARAB, STANLEYVILLE II, A2', BABINGA, FLATBUSH, KENYA and P-NILOTIC. There were no examples of/3-thalassemia or Hb C. These findings are relevant to the origins and movements of the East African population studied.
