Abstract
This paper presents data relevant to the resolution of the argument concerning the relations between extended family structure and fertility. A clarification of methodological and conceptual issues is attempted, and a new method for calculating births per year of exposure according to family structure is presented. A different direction for research concerning family structure, fertility and economics is briefly considered.
