The Age of Menopause in Medieval Europe

Abstract

Medieval sources from the 6th through the 15th centuries were reviewed to determine the probable age at menopause. By far the most frequently cited age at menopause is 50 years, approximately equivalent to the age currently being reported for the mid 20th century.
